Application Instructions & Tips
Thank you for purchasing SimpleCoat! Our goal is to redesign your experience with stone sealers and stainless steel polish—gone are the days of toxic, messy and difficult-to-use-products. SimpleCoat is a one-step, natural stone and stainless steel sealer and polish that can be used any time you want to enhance the look of surfaces in your home while keeping them protected against liquids, bacteria and stains.
SimpleCoat is applicable to all natural stone material such as granite, marble, and travertine. Common stone applications include countertops, wall tiles, bathroom tiles, and floor tiles. SimpleCoat may impart a smooth or silky feel to natural stone surfaces; see special note below before treating any flooring or bathroom areas.
SimpleCoat is excellent for stainless steel and decorative metal surfaces, adding shine while preventing smudges and streaking. For antique metals such as copper, bronze, and iron, and antique and faux metal finishes such as oil-rubbed bronze, SimpleCoat adds depth of color and protection against corrosion. Note that SimpleCoat is not designed to clean metal surfaces as with most metal polishes, but rather enhance and protect the finish. SimpleCoat will not remove patina, but instead enhances the look and reduces the appearance of chalky corrosion deposits.
SimpleCoat is safe for synthetic stone surfaces, but we recommend checking with the manufacturer to ensure that using any kind of sealant on your synthetic stone does not void the warranty. SimpleCoat may also be used on leather, hard plastics, wood, brick, and quartz. Because SimpleCoat can significantly change the depth of color and shine of some surfaces, ALWAYS TEST ON A SMALL INCONSPICUOUS AREA BEFORE APPLYING SIMPLECOAT TO ANY SURFACE.
PRIOR TO USE
SimpleCoat is easy to apply; no worries about using too much or too little product. You can re-wipe areas during treatment or retreat as often as desired, and wipe off any excess product with a dry cloth.
Only a small amount of SimpleCoat is needed to be effective. Use of more product does not impart additional protection. Your 8 oz. bottle of SimpleCoat will treat up to 3,000 ft2 of stone surface, and 7,000 ft2 of stainless steel!
We recommend that the application surface be clean and dry, but no special cleaning procedures are required, just use your routine cleaning process. Fully dry surfaces will respond best to treatment, since fully dried surfaces will prevent water from being trapped within the pores of the surface by the product. However, there is no concern if a portion of the surface is wet when SimpleCoat is applied,
APPLYING THE PRODUCT
We recommend using a small cloth for application, such as the one provided with your product. Soft disposable cloths and premium paper towels also work well. Keep your application cloth in the resealable pouch provided and reuse; no need to clean the application cloth between applications. This will help ensure that you do not waste any product.
Always apply SimpleCoat to your application cloth rather than the surface being treated. This will help to ensure even coverage. More SimpleCoat may be required initially to saturate your application cloth with first-time use, afterwards add small amounts of SimpleCoat as needed to your cloth to maintain a “damp” feel during application. Always test SimpleCoat on a small inconspicuous area before applying to entire surface to note any significant changes in the depth of color or shine. After testing, simply wipe the SimpleCoat-saturated cloth in a sweeping motion onto the surface being treated. Wipe down the treated surface with a soft, dry cloth immediately after application to remove any excess product. While this step is not required, it is highly recommended. For highly porous surfaces such as slate or tumbled travertine, allowing time for the pores to be penetrated by the product may be beneficial. Ten minutes to one hour of penetrating time is typically adequate.
SimpleCoat is safe for skin contact, but can leave your hands feeling slippery. Simply wash your hands with soap and water after application to remove any residue. If you prefer to use gloves, any type of glove may be used for application purposes, as SimpleCoat is compatible with all common glove materials.
FREQUENCY OF APPLICATION
SimpleCoat is not like other stone sealers—and proud of it! SimpleCoat causes no build-up, so feel free to use as often as desired as part of routine cleaning, or to add shine and “pop” for a special occasion. Using SimpleCoat weekly or monthly as part of a routine deep cleaning is a perfect way to keep surfaces looking their best. SimpleCoat can even be used daily as part of your general wipe-down. We recommend that SimpleCoat be applied every six months to one year for general protection purposes, depending on usage. High-use areas will need more frequent sealing.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR HIGHLY POROUS STONE MATERIALS SUCH AS SLATE & TUMBLED TRAVERTINE
Certain natural stone materials such as slate and tumbled travertine can be very porous. These materials may absorb SimpleCoat much more readily than harder surfaces such as granite. You may notice a change in appearance of these porous stone materials as SimpleCoat is absorbed over time. For instance, you may note a very shiny appearance which fades over time as the product is absorbed. This provides protection from staining deep within the pores, but may also require retreatment periodically until the stone becomes saturated. Also note that color change, especially with slate, can be quite dramatic, so always test on an inconspicuous area as noted above.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR TREATING FLOORING AND BATHROOM AREAS
Use particular care on flooring, bathroom areas, or anywhere that a non-slippery surface is required as the SimpleCoat technology may make these surfaces slippery depending on the nature of the stone. Testing on a small area prior to treating will help to ensure that treatment of the surface will not present a fall hazard.
